To overcome environmental crisis and to improve socio-economic situation in the Aral Sea basin,
acknowledged by the international community as one of the biggest catastrophes of the XX century,
in 1993 the International Fund for saving the Aral Sea has been created
by the Heads of States of Central Asia.
