Project justification | The threat of water scarcity and inefficient management of water resources can become a major obstacle to sustainable economic growth and social development both in the Aral-Syrdarya basin and Kazakhstan in general. It is also the inefficient management of water resources that negatively affects the development of the fishing industry in the region. |
Project beneficiaries | Akimat of Kyzylorda region, agricultural producers of the Aral district. |
Project Objectives | Ensuring safety, conservation and development of fish stocks in the Northern Aral Sea region. Strengthening capacity and enhancing activities of the Aral-Syrdarya Basin Council (including small basin councils), etc. |
Project tasks | 1. To develop and install effective fish protection system (FPS) for Kokaral dam water outlet structure taking into account necessity of effective protection of fish and their young species, protected from influence of ice cover and movement of ice floes. |
Expected results of the project | 1. Developed and installed fish protection system (FPS) will maximally reduce the rolling of fish and young fish species through the Kokaral dam water outlet, thereby reducing damage to fish stocks in the Aral Sea region. |
