World Bank launches International Environmental Disruptive Technology Challenge

Four winners of the International Environmental Disruptive Technology Innovation challenge will see their ideas implemented and share in a prize fund of up to $70,000 each.

The Disruptive Technology Innovation Challenge for Landscape Restoration in the Aral Sea watershed (Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan) is financed by the World Bank through its Central Asia Water and Energy Program (CAWEP) trust fund and is implemented in partnership with the Kazakh-German University and the Global Landscapes Forum (GLF).

The international challenge is open to anyone over 18 years of age, including innovators/inventors, students and graduates, PhD candidates; as well as educational and research institutions, NGOs, business and private organizations.

The project is aimed at identifying disruptive technologies and innovative approaches from the regional and international level that have benefits for the Aral Sea region in central Asia.

The challenge is being held entirely online. Knowledge of the English language is mandatory, as the contestants and winners will be trained with others, from various backgrounds and languages, in the successful preparation and implementation of the winning projects.

The call for proposals will be announced at the end of September 2020.

Short-listed candidates will be trained in areas including business skills, leadership, and communication skills. The final prize winners will be selected on the basis on their presentations of business ideas; and will also participate in thematic trainings and mentoring programs.
